Rules Committee

Overview

An important role of the IRF is to establish a uniform ruleset for international competition amongst member NGBs. Up until the creation of the IRF, the Spikeball Roundnet Association rules were the universal standard. The rule review committee will be tasked with reviewing the SRA ruleset and making recommendations on any necessary modifications to best implement as an initial baseline ruleset.

Applications open through May 25th

Scope of Work

  • Clarity - Identify areas of confusion that make the rules less effective as an international standard. (ie measurement lengths, colloquial idioms, unclear phrasing, etc.) Create revisions that work better in an international context.

  • Evaluation - Determine any specific rules that need further evaluation (ie provisional rules) to understand their impact from an international context. Help collect feedback and data on these rules from the international community and present findings and recommendations. Provisional rules would then become officially adopted or rejected through a vote of the General Assembly.

  • Opportunity - Look for any other opportunities to improve, simplify, or create greater shared understanding around the ruleset (formatting, examples, images, missing info, etc.).

The objective of this committee is to help establish the IRF’s baseline ruleset. As such, the focus will not be on introducing new rules, concepts, or formats.

What we’re looking for

To do this work, we are putting together a committee that includes two IRF board members (TBD) and 5 international community members. We’re looking for a diverse group of individuals with deep ties to their communities and surrounding communities and a wealth of knowledge and experience with roundnet rules. These individuals will also need availability to work and meet through the month of June on the project.

Timeline

  • Committee Selection Announced- May 28th

  • Committee Recommendations to Board - June 30th

  • Revised and Provisional Rules to IRF Membership - Early July

  • General Assembly - September (membership votes on provisional rules)

Applications open through May 25th
